SIH is a not-for-profit health system serving the southernmost 16 counties of Illinois. With four hospitals and the region’s only comprehensive cancer center, Level II Trauma Center, open-heart surgery program, birthing center, special care nursery, and pediatric unit, SIH provides advanced care close to home. The system includes the SIH Mulberry Center in Harrisburg—the only inpatient behavioral health unit of its kind south of Interstate 64—and houses the largest robotic surgery program in Southern Illinois. More than 700 employed and affiliated physicians and advanced practice providers deliver care across 60 specialties and subspecialties, supported by over 30 clinics throughout SIH’s primary and secondary service areas.

SIH hospitals are located within 58 miles of one another, primarily along the Route 13 corridor in adjacent counties. SIH St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, SIH Memorial Hospital of Carbondale and SIH Herrin Hospital are within 19 miles of each other, and together with SIH Harrisburg Medical Center, operate as one system with each facility specializing in distinct areas of care. All are licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health and accredited by The Joint Commission. Recognized for quality outcomes in heart attack, heart failure, stroke, maternal health, surgical oncology and cancer care, SIH maintains affiliations with leading organizations including Prairie Heart Institute, the SIU School of Medicine Family Practice Residency Program, the Siteman Cancer Network and the BJC Collaborative.
