Community Spotlight: Herrin CUSD #4
What services do you provide?
We provide Pre-K through 12th grade education across four schools, along with special education, vocational training, and early childhood programs through county cooperatives. We also offer adult education classes in partnership with John A. Logan College, food service programs, technology support, and curriculum guidance. In addition, the Herrin Education Foundation supports our students through scholarships and classroom resources.
How have you seen the organization make a difference?
We have seen measurable academic growth, such as improved literacy scores in early grades. Our graduation rate is above the state average, and our community outreach programs have earned statewide recognition. Through scholarships and classroom investments, we have also helped students pursue higher education and enriched learning opportunities..
Herrin CUSD #4 serves approximately 2,300 students across five educational facilities, ranging from PreK through grade 12: Herrin PreK Center, Northside Primary Center, Herrin Elementary School, Herrin Junior High School, and Herrin High School. Our district provides premier public education to the City of Herrin and surrounding communities. Herrin is a historic city in Williamson County, known for its coal-mining heritage and strong community spirit. Nestled amongst Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge, Shawnee National Forest, Shawnee Hills Wine Trail, and numerous historical sights, our area offers endless opportunities for outdoor recreation, culture, and relaxation.
Is there anything you wish more people knew about your organization?
We wish more people knew how deeply connected our schools are to the Herrin community. Beyond academics, we provide resources that support families, offer opportunities in the arts, athletics, and career training, and partner with organizations like the Herrin Education Foundation to expand what we can offer students. Our staff and community volunteers work hard every day to make sure every student has the chance to succeed.
